How PHI Mask was made
A human software engineer with 20 years of experience led the work, using OpenAI Codex with GPT-5.6 and Claude Code with Fable 5, Opus 5, and Sonnet 5 for implementation, testing, and review. These are development tools only; they are not part of the resulting service.
What the resulting service uses
PHI Mask does not use a generative AI model or send your content to a generative AI service. The browser-local workflow uses pattern-based PHI/PII detection, Tesseract.js for OCR that extracts text from images and scanned PDFs, PDF.js to read and render PDF pages, and pdf-lib to create flattened redacted PDF exports. Those exports contain only the redacted page images, so hidden source text cannot be recovered.
